Welcome!
Hey Freshers, congratulations on getting into Sidney! The best location (opposite Sainsbury's), the best people, and the best bar. We're not biased at all. The committee has been working hard to make this the best Freshers' Week yet, this site gives you an idea of just some of the things that go on in Sidney. If you want any more information feel free to email your Subject Rep or the Freshers' Rep at cmrh2@cam.ac.uk.

Freshers' Rep

Hi, I'm Katie Hunter and I'm your Freshers' Rep. Hopefully you're looking forward to coming to Sidney; as everyone here can verify, its a really great place to live and study.
Alongside my committee, I've been organising loads of fun events to help you get to know one another, and of course for us to get to know you as well. They'll take place both in the day and in the evenings, and we've tried to arrange it so that there are events that appeal to everyone.
My first year has flown past and I can't believe it's over now; being a Fresher is a great combination of unforgettable nights out, long conversations about nothing in particular in your friends' rooms and meeting so many new people (also a bit of work as well); it's such a great year - so savour it!
If you have any questions, concerns or reservations please email me.
See you in October!
Katie
SSCSU President

Hello there and welcome to Sidney. We are delighted that you are joining our college can't wait to see you all in Freshers' Week! My name is Liam and I am your SSCSU President. SSCSU stands for Sidney Sussex College Students' Union, and it's our job to make sure your views are represented to the senior members of college, as well as to provide Welfare support and to put on Ents to make sure your time at Sidney is as fun and relaxed as possible. As President I sit on College Council, the college's senior decision making body, as well as a host of other sub-committees which meet a few times a term. These are the main ways in which student voices are heard at Sidney.
I am also here to answer any questions about college life, from how you can access the services it provides to how aspects of the college runs. Basically I am you first port of call for any issue to do with Sidney, and I am always more than happy to hear from you, even if I point you in the direction of someone else who is better placed to help out.
It's also worth pointing out here that SSCSU isn't the only union in Cambridge that you'll hear about as there is a University wide union called CUSU. CUSU provides even more welfare support and organises campaigns that affect all colleges, such as the recent struggles against increased tuition fees. It also represents Cambridge at the NUS conferences.Lastly, just to say, if you are nervous about Freshers' Week, then don't be. The Freshers' Team have planned an excellent week and soon you'll feel right at home in the Sidney community, and will wonder why you were ever nervous about coming!
I look forward to meeting you all when you arrive, in the meantime if you have any questions please email me on sscsu.president@cam.ac.uk.
